Overview
Child Care Center Directors will explore and discuss the major challenges facing our families and children in West Virginia.  The sessions offered will provide the opportunity to discuss strategies needed to provide families and children support needed.  
Objective

1.b. Recognizes the importance of fetal development and the connection to a child’s long-term health and

development

1.1.g. Recognizes signs of resilience in the child and family and works with the family to strengthen protective factors

1.1.h. Understands the impact of stress and trauma on a child’s development and supports families in reducing

children’s exposure to stress

1.2.m. Works with other community agencies and services to help children meet developmental learning goals

1.3.q. Provides families with information and strategies to promote social and emotional development

1.4.e. Creates an environment and provides strategies that help children:

  1. Manage strong emotions and calm themselves
  2. Focus their attention to remain actively engaged with activities and materials
  3. Read the signals of the environment to learn how to respond appropriately
  4. Cope with fear, anger, and frustration
  5. Use language to share their needs
  6. Consider the needs of others
  7. Use problem-solving and conflict resolution strategies

2.4.e. Helps families understand the special education referral and evaluation process, when applicable

2.4.f. Advocates for needed services and resources for families

2.4.g. Develops and maintains relationships with other professionals in related fields

4.1.h. Recognizes strengths in every child and family and is able to communicate those strengths

6.4. e. Seeks out knowledge of the cultures and populations within the community and integrates into practice

6.4. g. Explores and integrates current trends and research-based practices to make and justify decisions.

6.6. e. Promotes acceptance of individuals with disabilities and special needs as valued and contributing family and community members.

6.6.g. Acts as a resource and advocates for community awareness of the current research and best practices impacting children and families.

7.5. k. Supports staff in seeking knowledge of community resources in order to connect families with the most appropriate supports

7.5.l. Creates partnerships with the larger community to develop resources that support children and families

7.5.m. Works collaboratively with community agencies to meet the needs of individual children and families

7.5.n. Advocates for needed services and resources for families

7.5. o. Develops and maintains relationships with other professionals in related fields
